MWBE Leadership Association Program and Financial Literacy funded with allocations from NYC Council enables HBA to provide M/WBE certification application assistance & financial literacy instruction to minority, women and local owned businesses.
The New York City Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (M/WBE) Program certifies, promotes, and fosters the growth of the City's minority and women-owned businesses. Companies that become certified obtain greater access to and information about contracting opportunities, receive technical assistance to better compete for those opportunities, and benefit from inclusion in the City's Online Directory of Certified Firms.
The Program works to address the full range of business needs by providing services designed to strengthen the ability of certified M/WBEs to compete successfully in the marketplace. Firms based in New York City or certain surrounding counties are eligible for certification if they have been in business for more than one year and are at least 51 percent owned by a member of an ethnic minority group or woman.
Certified M/WBE's have access to free business assistance and seminars to help them make the most of their certification status. All companies are listed in a searchable public online directory that is used by purchasing officers and contracting agencies to find the goods and services they need.

We are hosting seminars in the Harlem area to assist you in understanding this process and the potential opportunities for your business.
Once your company's application is complete including all supporting documents, it will then be submitted to New York City Department of Small Business Services. You can also call the City's Certification Helpline for more information at 212-513-6311. The Dept. of Small Business Services offers free classes taught by trained certification analyst as well. Classes are offered at the NYC Dept. of Small Business Services' lower Manhattan office on the third Thursday of each month from 2-4 PM and the fourth Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30 pm. Registration is required. Call 311 and ask for "Small Business Seminars" or you can visit NYC.gov/getcertified.
